BMW North America has announced the decision to fit a new four-cylinder petrol engine, featuring TwinPower Turbo system, to the new X3 xDrive28i. The new engine replaces the normally-aspirated inline six-cylinder as part of the continuous effort to introduce more eco-friendly, efficient engines for the mass market.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine delivers 240hp at 5,000 engine revs, thanks to the in-house developed twin-scroll forced-induction system. With peak torque of 353Nm on tap from just 1,250rpm, the new X3 launches from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds.
The revised X3 will also receive an array of driver-aid systems, such as the Lane Departure Warning found on many of its competitors. A M-performance variant will also make its debut for the X3 range.
