Is it possible to get rid of a food allergy?

Postby TruthSquad » Mon Jan 25, 2010 8:56 pm

For example people grow out of being allergic to different flowers, trees, grasses, dust, etc. quite often. Why should it be any different with a food allergy? I'm allergic to wheat.

You might not get completely rid of a (food) allergy but today there are many methods and treatments which you can use to learn to live with it without almost no symptoms.
Go see your doctor for more information and/or check the internet for guides and stuff of that kind, e.g. www.allergies-guide.net

Enjoy and good luck! :)

The easiest way to get rid of food allergy is to avoid the food which causes allergy. The person suffering from food allergy must know the ingredients used in the food and avoid such food.

I would say, if you are a child, yes, if you are grown up, no...... Many children outgrow their allergies, but some few of them still have the allergy in their adult life and then you just have to avoid the allergen, since you can not get rid of the allergy. I have been allergic to eggs all my life, and I still am.

She probably means learning which foods to avoid. I once saw a library book called, Curing Your Food Allergies. The book contained NOTHING about curing allergies. It was only about avoiding foods.

Depending on how old you are, I would say it's a possibility - a close friend of mine grew up with a strawberry allergy as a child, but now as an adult she is "somewhat" allergic meaning, sometimes she gets hives and sometimes she doesn't. I think you should read up on wheat allergies and then get an opinion from your doctor on the severity of your case, especially since wheat does limit your diet more than strawberries would.

Some friends of mine have "outgrown" food allergies they had as a child. I think there's no definite yes or no answer. It depends on your body, and your history. It's best to consult with a physician about this.
