Farming first began along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The area around and between these rivers is called the "fertile crescent" because it has a kind of moon shape.
These rivers would flood and produce fertile land for farming. This is the beginning of the sedentary lifestyle which led to irrigation and trade and eventually cities like Uruk and Babylon.
